A Facsimile Edition

The American Philosophical Society has published a facsimile edition of three journals of Lewis and Clark from the originals held in its collections. These are accurate reproductions printed in full color by the Stinehour Press and bound in paper. Each set comes with an explanatory pamphlet and includes:

  • William Clark's Codex A (May 13, 1804-August 14, 1804): covering the departure from St. Louis
  • Meriwether Lewis' Codex E (May 25-July 16, 1805): including the map Draught of the Falls and portage of the Missouri River, ca. July 4, 1805
  • Lewis' Codex J (January 1-March 20, 1806): written at the furthest point of the journey, and including sketches of the White Salmon Trout, the Eulachon, the Condor, Indian canoes and other artifacts.
